Despite being hampered with the bad knee and ankles, the last few days have been quite productive really. Yesterday I went to see a Business Adviser at Barnsley Enterprise Centre to find out what support is available and the good news is "Loads" and it is free. I have lots of experience of managing a business but things change and it's great to be able to talk to someone who knows all the latest stuff. We talked through my business ideas and he sees it as a great proposition and I came away feeling even more positive. I plan to make further appointments with other Advisers as they have experts on financial, legal and marketing aspects. Before I meet with them though I want to have drafts of my plans together.
I have also packed a couple of boxes and I know that might sound like madness but it's all part of the decluttering pre the house sale - plus I recall what hard work it is packing everything, although the last time I moved was over 19 years ago. Freecycle is coming in handy for getting rid of stuff that we don't want or need and it's great knowing that we are not adding to the landfill problems.
Tomorrow is an exciting day as I am going through to Bridlington to view another property. I had kind of dismissed it but am now having second thoughts. I suspect it will need a total overhaul as in re wiring, plastering, kitchen, bathroom, possibly a new boiler and the shop front needs a new frontage. I'll let you know how I go on.
Good news also in that Google has indexed this site and if you search for Reiki in Bridlington I am top of the list. At this rate I will have customers even before this house sells! Thinking of this though if any students were to come forward I could easily run a workshop in Brid. So if any of you reading this is looking for Reiki Master Teacher get in touch.
I have had some lovely emails of support which make me smile - thanks everyone. For anyone who has registered you can add comments to each of the posts on the site so feel free to do so .. it will be a good test to see if I have set it up right
xx Chris
Oh dear what a start to this weekend! I was all set to achieve lots but had a nasty fall yesterday which resulted in a trip to Accident and Emergency today. I have managed to sprain both ankles and torn a ligament in my knee. I had a very restless night and hope this evening brings me a restful nights sleep.
I haven’t been idle though and managed to get some essential maintenance done on the Reiki website and submitted sitemaps to Google . Oops enough of that geeky stuff! Maybe I will confess my sins now and get it over with – my second degree is an MSc in Computer Studies.
Later today I plan to get some jewellery made so I will show you photographs when they are done. I won’t take pictures of the Lavakite necklace though because it is going to Fiona and I want the look to be a total surprise for her – the camera wouldn’t do the beauty of the stones justice anyway. Lavakite is a Scandinavian version of Labradorite. It is reputed to helps relieve insecurity and apprehension, and bring the understanding required to realise and achieve the destiny of this life. It also can help to provide clarity to inner sight.
I fancy having a go doing a ladder stitch bracelet- it uses tubes rather than those itsy bitsy teeny tiny seed beads which Kerrie and Alison keep encouraging me to create with – dream on ladies lol
Later today I’m also going to email all my friends and let them know this site is here. I hope you all set up a user account so that you can comment on it all. I warn you now the email sends you a password which looks Russian – the easiest way to confirm your account is to click on the link in the email. And don’t panic as you can set the password to whatever you like once you have verified your account.
It isn't easy to say the exact moment that this idea of buying a property from which I could live and work was born, but many factors led to the light bulb moment. As I sit here I think “Well where should I begin?” as it seems that the universe has been unfolding this for so many years now.
Without a doubt, finding Reiki and then training and years of experiences to become a Usui Reiki Master has to be a pivotal aspect. Once we take these active steps to manage ourself and begin to fulfill our spiritual potential we begin to focus on what we want or don't want within our lives. With hindsight I now realise that my initial focus was what I wanted taken out of my life, and I began to achieve that by walking away from my career in Adult Education management.
As time went by I began to look at what I wanted to add into my life. It was evident that I needed to look at ways of earning a living within the confines of what my health would allow. The decision to begin creating gemstone jewellery was a result of chance and synchronicity, and whilst I have yet to make any kind of living from it, from an initial investment of £100 I have created a beautiful range, by a constant reinvestment from sales.
Attending Fairs is a great experience and successful but really are too hard for me physically. It takes a week to make sure everything is cleaned, priced and packed and of course you have all the display items to pack. Did I mention the week to recover ? The website has not been as successful as anticipated but given the plethora of sites selling I am thankful for the friendsz who have found me and loved my creations. The thing is though, choosing a piece is more than what it looks like on an image- the true beauty of each piece can only be appreciated when you see it and touch it for real.
Practicing and teaching Reiki from your own personal space is also not ideal. People are always welcomed into my home and enjoy their experiences but to have the totally separate spaces to live and work would be bliss.
So my mind started thinking about finding somewhere where I could easily combine home and work and I began to research properties here in Barnsley where I currently live. This proved to be fruitless as most properties are Leasehold and the rents are a joke.
I then recalled a conversation I had the previous summer with Amanda when we had been talking about how much we both loved Bridlington. She told me how the property prices there were really reasonable and at the time I had a quick look on the web and thought no more about it.
In December 2007 I went to look at the first property and here we are in July 2008 finally taking the bit between the teeth and actually going for it. The picture on the left shows my current home, a lovely Edwaridan semi where I have lived for 19 years. (3 bedrooms, 3 gardens and open to offers ) The house has been valued by one Estate Agent and by the end of next week I am hoping the house is ready to accept viewers. It’s a matter of de cluttering really and making the house look more spacious and ermm tidy . I will keep you posted on developments
Meanwhile have a look at this
Namaste
Chris xxxx
